What can improve pine quality is proper thermal modification. Heat treatment alters the molecular properties of pine, causing polysaccharides to break down and resins to crystallize.

Thermally treated pine stops decomposing by becoming unsuitable for microorganisms. Furthermore, thermo pine is not easily deformed or affected by changes in humidity or temperature.
